Situated in the central part of Ningbo, Fenghua is a sub-city of Ningbo
and one of the National Class-A open economic zones. The city covers
a land area of 1249 square km and a water area of 96 square km, with 9 towns and
2 sub-district offices under its jurisdiction and a population of 488,000. The
city proper is 15 km from Lishe Airport and 50 km from Beilun Port. The
Tongjiang-Sanya Expressway and Ningbo-Jinhua Expressway cross the whole city,
providing convenient transportation. Clean and tidy, the city is also cited as
"an excellent city for comprehensive improvement of urban environment".
Fenghua is also among the One Hundred Top Counties of the County in terms of
overall strength. It mainstay industries are garment, machinery, electronics,
foodstuff, pharmaceuticals. Its garment industry in particular is well
developed, hence the title of "Town of Garment". There are the abundant
agricultural resources, including the yield of honey peach, taro, flowers,
bamboo shoots and strawberry, all well know across the world. Aquaculture also
develops rapidly in the area where aquaculture area totals some 30000 mu and
mesh cages total some 30,000 in number. It has in fact become a major
aquaculture base of the country, with its aquatic products being supplied to the
cities of Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou, and Ningbo and exported to Japan and
Korea.
Fenghua teems with beautiful sceneries and historical sites, all so suitable
for tourism. Xikou Scenic Area and Tuntou Eco-tourism Exemplary Area are both
National Class-A tourist spots. They received total 3 million tourist visits in
2001.
The Administrative Committee of Fenghua Economic Development Zone and Fenghua
Municipal Bureau of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation are represented by
one and same staff but operates under their respective names. They are
responsible for the investment promotion, foreign economics and trade, service
to foreign-invested enterprises and the planning, development and administration
of development zones on behalf of the municipal government.
