¢ñ Regulatory Agency & Public Services Radio & Television Bureau of
Zhejiang Province, an administrative organ of the provincial government, takes
responsibility of local and regional broadcast regulation. It is composed of 9
departments in charge of inner and foreign affairs, human resources, publicity
work, art management, technology application, program monitoring, trade
regulation and law enforcement. With regard to education services, there are
Zhejiang Branch of Further Education School, Beijing Broadcasting College and
Zhejiang Working Station of Long-Distance Education School, Beijing Broadcasting
College. As for trade organizations, there are Zhejiang Radio & Television
Academy and Zhejiang Radio & Television Industrial Institution, with the
main tasks of academic advancement, agency service, program awards, professional
training as well as cooperation with fellow broadcasters in other places.
¢ò Zhejiang Radio & Television Group Founded on 26 Dec. 2001, Zhejiang
Radio & Television Group focuses itself on program businesses, with daily
broadcast of over 300 hours in 7 radio and 9 television channels. There are
totally 8 satellite-transmitted programs, 7 on radio and 1 on television, of
which Voice of Traffic started the first application of FM synchronous
broadcasting in China and Zhejiang Satellite Television was launched in 1994,
covering an area of more than 40 neighboring countries and regions, reaching a
population of some 2 billion and entering 95 percent of local and regional cable
television networks in China. Trans-national program exchanges are expanded
widely and documentaries such as Zhejiang Today are broadcasted periodically in
over 10 countries including U.S.A. and Japan. With a strong capability in
content production and technology security, Zhejiang Radio & Television
Group has successfully hosted large-scale live broadcast and promotion
activities for several times. Additionally, it has come out at the top list of
China in terms of over-all economy.
¢ó Local Broadcasters Local and regional broadcasting stations are set up
in 11 municipalities and 66 counties under the province£¬as foundations of
Zhejiang Radio & Television. Cable television networks in different levels
are connected as a whole. According to the statistics in 2004, the total revenue
of local and regional broadcasters accounted for three quarters of that of
Zhejiang Radio & Television. Hangzhou Radio & Television Group, firstly
founded in China¡¯s provincial capitals, made a breakthrough in annual income of
300 million yuan, while Ningbo Radio & Television Group, also firstly
established in the cities specifically designated in the state plan, got a new
record of 230 million yuan. 29 county broadcasters accomplished annual income of
over 20 million yuan, in which the highest one exceeded 70 million yuan.
Programs produced by local broadcasters such as Guinness of China Television
(entertainment by Wenzhou Television) have been well known both at home and
abroad.
¢ô Technology Application Up to now, OA technology has been widely used in
most administrative departments and the process of building a digital system has
been accelerated in the broadcasting stations under healthy financial
conditions. HDTV equipments have been put into operation by radio &
television groups of Zhejiang, Hangzhou and Ningbo and Wenzhou Television as
well. A transition of upgrading from analog to digital has been initiated in
local and regional cable networks. Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wenzhou, Shaoxing, Jiaxing
and Huzhou have been ranked as the first experimental cities of digital
television broadcast by the national authority. What¡¯s more, 93 percent of towns
and 65 percent of villages have been connected with the provincial transmission
network by optic cables.
¢õ Press & Publication Zhejiang Radio & Television runs 12
newspapers and 2 magazines such as Zhejiang Radio & Television (newspaper),
Public Television (magazine), Shiting Zongheng (magazine) and Zhejiang City
Radio & Television (newspaper). In particular, the circulation of Zhejiang
Radio & Television is much higher than that of its counterparts in other
provinces. Zhejiang Recording & Publishing House, a member of both
International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) and Recording
Industry Association of China (RIAC), has won an honor of Top Ten Professionals
in China.
¢ö Various Businesses The main financial sources of Zhejiang Radio &
Television come from various businesses ranging from advertising to cable nets,
engineering, equipments and teleplays. In the year 2004, advertising income
occupied more than a half of the total revenue of Zhejiang Radio &
Television, while earnings from plural businesses based on cable nets mounted up
by a large margin.
¢÷ Teleplay Production In recent years, teleplays produced by Zhejiang
Radio & Television have achieved an annually increasing proportion of the
national market. Two third of teleplay companies in Zhejiang are privately
invested and have forged ahead by leaps and bounds. Production bases in Hengdian
Dongyang, Wuzhen Tongxiang, Taohuadao Zhoushan and Xinchang have attracted much
attention of shooting groups. The National Grain Warehouse has been broadcasted
by CCTV-1 at the premier time and Dream of the Red Mansion has been awarded the
National Prize.
¢ø Foreign Exchange Nowadays, active measures are taken in expanding
exchanges with the outside world. Programs such as Zhejiang Today, Greeting from
Zhejiang and Stories on Zhejiang are delivered by tens of western broadcasting
companies. Program-promotion activities named as A Week of Zhejiang Programs in
native languages have been held overseas successfully with the support of local
fellow broadcasters. Take FBC in Japan for an example, the activity has been
kept there for a decade. Moreover, mutual visits and cooperation between
Zhejiang Radio & Television and its foreign partners are enhanced year by
year. |
