Light Industry in Zhejiang

By 2005, the number of light industry enterprises above the designated scale in Zhejiang has amounted to 13360. Gross industrial output value created reached RMB 561.416 billion, an increase of 24.81% over the same period last year (the same hereinafter). Sales revenue earned reached RMB 550.914 billion, an increase of 24.61%. Total amount of profits generated reached RMB 26.235 billion, an increase of 23.0%. All three indicators rank the third nationwide.

  

Zhejiang has a comparatively well-established and comprehensive light industry and the output and manufacturing techniques of many products reached advanced level in domestic markets. The products with the highest output in China include sewing machines, smoke ventilators, light leathers, leatherwear, leather bags (sacks), backpacks, toilet soaps (soaps), galvanic cells, electric light sources, washing machines, glasses, hand tools, etc.

Overview of Key Industries:

  Home appliance industry: By 2005, the number of home appliance enterprises above the designated scale in Zhejiang has amounted to 491. Gross industrial output value created reached RMB 46.8 billion, accounting for 12.15% of the national total. The manufacturers of home appliances are mainly stationed in Hangzhou, Ningbo and Taizhou, of which Ningbo (including Yuyao and Cixi) has developed professional home appliance matching system and has become the key producing area of home appliances not only in Zhejiang Province, but in China.
 

Leather industry: By 2005, the number of leather products enterprises above the designated scale in Zhejiang has amounted to 1762. Gross industrial output value created reached RMB 83.4 billion, accounting for 25.58% of the national total. Output of light leather products and output of leather garments account for 35% and 44% of the national total respectively and both rank the first in China. Zhejiang¨s leather products enterprises are mainly stationed in Haining and Wenzhou. Haining¨s annual output of leather garments accounts for over one third of the national total and it is the biggest manufacturing base of leather garments and leather sofa covers in China. Wenzhou has developed a shoe leather production system with professional matching system and has become the most important manufacturing base of shoe products in China.
  

Plastic product industry: By 2005, the number of plastic products enterprises above the designated scale in Zhejiang has amounted to 2259. Gross industrial output value created reached RMB 86.8 billion, accounting for 17.91% of the national total. The total output of plastic products made in Zhejiang ranks second in China. Huangyan district of Taizhou city is the biggest processing base of plastic molds in China; Yuyao and Cixi of Ningbo are the biggest processing bases of injection molded plastics; and Wenzhou has a high concentration of synthetic leather manufacturers.

  Paper-making industry: By 2005, the number of paper-making and paper products enterprises above the designated scale in Zhejiang has amounted to 1211. Gross industrial output value created reached RMB 48.1 billion, accounting for 17.91% of the national total and ranks the second in China. Paper manufacturers are mostly stationed in Hangzhou and Ningbo. During the tenth five-year plan, efforts will be made primarily on the development of the two paper making bases in Ningbo and Jiaxing. Ningbo will become China¨s biggest paper production base while Jiaxing, the production base of special paper.

Food industry: By 2005, the number of food manufacturers above the designated scale in Zhejiang has amounted to 1397. Gross industrial output value created reached RMB 76.6 billion. Food processing industrial clusters with distinctive regional features have taken initial shape, such as the edible vegetable oil manufactured in Huzhou, Jiaxing and Ningbo; the meat and poultry products manufactured in Jinhua, Jiaxing, Huzhou and Hangzhou; the aquatic products manufactured in Zhoushan, Ningbo and Taizhou; the dairy products manufactured in Hangzhou, Jinhua and Wenzhou; the processed vegetable products manufactured in Hangzhou (Xiaoshan), Ningbo (Cixi and Yuyao) and Jiaxing; the canned fruit manufactured in Ningbo, Taizhou and Quzhou; the edible fungi and potherb manufactured in Lishui; and the fodder manufactured in Jiaxing, etc.
