By the end of 2005, Zhejiang Province boasts 1 tourist holiday resort at national level and 14 at provincial level, 17 scenic areas at national level and 40 at provincial level, 73 major historical and cultural sites under state protection and 442 under provincial protection, 29 forest parks at national level and 58 at provincial level; 9 nature reserves at national level and 7 at provincial level. (Among the 9 nature reserves at national level, Nanji Isles Marine National Nature Reserve is the only island in China that is included in the United Nations International Man and Biosphere Program.) Zhejiang also has 5 famous historical and cultural cities at national level and 12 at provincial level as well as 43 historical and cultural reserves at provincial level. There are 100 patriotic education bases in China, 5 of which are located in Zhejiang. Zhejiang also boasts 109 patriotic education bases at provincial level. In addition, Zhejiang is blessed with 14 national key temple sites.

7 nature reserves at provincial level: Longwangshan Nature Reserve, Sea Turtle Nature Reserve, Cambrian Ordovician System Lime Rock Geological Cross Section Nature Reserve, Chengtian Radon Spring Nature Reserve, Wuzhishan Isles Nature Reserve for Bird Protection, Jiushan Isles Marine Ecological Nature Reserve, and Dongbaishan Nature Reserve.

5 famous historical and cultural cities at national level: Hangzhou, Shaoxing, Ningbo, Quzhou and Linhai.

12 famous historical and cultural cities at provincial level: Wenzhou, Jinhua, Jiaxing, Huzhou, Zhoushan, Yuyao, Dongyang, Rui’an, Lanxi, Longquan, Tiantai County and Songyang County.

VII) Patriotic Education Bases

Zhejiang boasts 5 of the hundred national patriotic education bases, including the Site of Coast Defense at Zhenhai, Hemudu Ruins Museum, Nanhu Revolutionary Memorial, Lu Xun’s Former Residence and Memorial, and Mausoleum of Dayu in Shaoxing. Besides, there are 109 patriotic education bases at provincial level in Zhejiang.
