Zhejiang possesses beautiful mountains and rich human culture. In the province, there are mountain ranges rising and falling, plains criss-crossing, rivers flowing long distance and islands scattering all over like stars in the sky. The mountains, rivers, lakes, sea, beaches, forests, caves and fountains form beautiful sceneries which are magnificent, or extraordinary, or precipitous, or tranquil, or quiet like a virgin, or move like a dragon, or higher than the sky, or deeper than the sea, or like mountains and rivers in a painting, or like ten thousand horses running together. The extraordinary mountains and rivers have fostered generations of outstanding figures and attracted guests from all sides, leaving human historic sites all over Zhejiang. In the whole province, there are more than 800 geomorphic scenic spots, 200 water scenic spots, 100 biological scenic spots and 100 human culture scenic spots; There are 14 key scenic areas of national level namely the West Lake, Fuchun-Xinan River, Yandang Mountain, Mogan Mountain, Putuo Mountain, Tiantai Mountain, Nanxijiang River, Shengsi Islands, Shuanglong Cave, Xiandu, Xuedou Mountain, Wanjiang River-Wuxie, Jianglang Mountain and Xianju, and 42 scenic areas of provincial level such as Dongqian Lake, Dafuo Temple, Fangyan, Lanke Mountain, etc.; There are 5 historic and cultural cities of national level namely Hangzhou, Ningbo, Shaoxing, Quzhou and Linhai, and another 12 historic and cultural cities of provincial level; There are 279 key cultural relic units under provincial protection, 7 natural parks of national level and 20 national forest parks. Natural and human landscape enhance each other¡¯s beauty, making Zhejiang a true paradise for tourists. Scenic spots are scattered all over the province with the West Lake scenic area of Hangzhou as the center. In the eastern part of Zhejiang, tourists can have tours to the land of rivers and lakes, the kingdom of Buddhism, and also to seek the trace of poems of Tang Dynasty. On the way alone the West Lake, the East Lake, Dongqian Lake, Xikou and Putuo is the most typical landscape of land of rivers and lakes in China with numerous criss-crossing rivers flowing to the sea; The Lingyin Temple and Jingci Temple of Hangzhou, the Dafuo Temple and Nanyan Temple of Xinchang, the Tiantong Temple and Ayuwang Temple of Ningbo, the Guoqing Temple and Longxing Temple of Tiantai, the Puji Temple, Huiji Temple and Fayu Temple are all of rich Buddhism background and bless for happiness of everybody; More than 400 poets of Tang Dynasty such as Libai, Dufu, Liu Changqing, Song Zhiwen, Yuan Zhen, Wangbo, He Zhizhang, Wen Tingyun, Dumu left their trace and about 1000 poems in the West Lake, Shanyin Pass, the 19 Peaks of Chuanyan, the ancient tour way of Xie Lingyun, Tianmushi City and the waterfalls of Shiliang. Linked with Kuochang to the north and the sea to the east, the southern part of Zhejiang is famous in the nation for extraordinary mountains and rivers, waterfalls and fountains. The Yandang Mountain, Nanxijiang River and Dongtou Island of Wenzhou, the Tiantai Mountain, Shenxianju and the old Great Wall of Taizhou, the Xiandu Peak, Shimen Cave and Nanming Mountain of Lishui all possess numerous scenic spots of extraordinary and magnificent mountains and rivers. The western part of Zhejiang draws miraculous power from heaven and earth, and collects the essence of mountains. Heading up from Hangzhou, three key scenic areas of national level namely the West Lake, Fuchun-Xinanjiang River and the Yellow Mountain of Anhui Province form a line which deserves to be one of the renowned gold tourism lines in China. The picturesque landscape of the Guan Mountain of Fuyang, Yaolin Cave of Tonglu, the Small Three Gorges of Jiande, the Lake of One-Thousand-Island of Chunan, the Shuanglong Cave of Jinhua, the Jianglang Mountain of Quzhou, the Great Valley of East Zhejiang and the Qianjiang River Source of Kaihua make people¡¯s eyes unable to take them all in. The Hanghui Road leads directly to the Yellow mountain of Anhui Province passing through the Tianmu Mountain. The northern part of Zhejiang is the famous land of silk, where the well-known Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal passes through the rich Hangjiahu Plain. It is the cradle of silk civilization and the starting point of the Silk Way. The historic sites and sceneries of old towns of the south such as Nanxun, Xitang and Wuzhen can still be visited; Summer resorts like the Mogan Mountain, the Longwang Mountain and the Nanbei Lake are of unique environment and beautiful landscape; The tidal waves of Qianjiang River in Haining, the bamboo park of Anji and the Tianhuangping Energy Reserve Electricity Plant are spectacular and magnificent. This area has formed a tourism zone of the old Grand Canal-Taihu Lake jointly with Suzhou, Wuxi and Yixing.
