Its main duties are:

1.To implement P.R.C statistical laws and rules, organize and supervise the statistical and national economic accounting work in every region and department in the province. To draft local statistical rules, and enforce these rules after being approved.

2.To set up national economic accounting system and statistical indicator system all over the province, design unified basic statistical tables, organize and coordinate the social and economic survey, examine statistical survey plans, take charge of managing statistical tables in every region and department in the province.

3.To organize major census all over the province. To collect and provide the basic statistical data, analysis and forecast, supervise national economy, social development and scientific & technological development situation, provide information for the Provincial Party Committee and other departments.

4.To examine, administer and supply the basic statistical data of the whole province, and periodically release statistical information of national economy and social development.

5.To establish and administer the provincial statistical database, instruct and coordinate the statistical information network set up by every region and department in the whole province.

6.To assist local organizational departments in managing directors and vice-directors of statistical bureaus in the localities. Under the entrustment by The State Statistical Bureau, to instruct and manage the Urban Social and Economic Survey Teams, Rural Social and Economic Survey Teams and Enterprises Survey Teams in every city (county) in the province. To organize and instruct statistical basic construction, implement the statistical register system of statistical units, administer statistical operating expenses of statistical departments at county level and above in the province, go in for statistical professional examination in coordination with human resources department, and implement the system of professionals going on duty with certificates.

7.To organize and instruct the statistical scientific research in the province, and develop the exchange and co-operation with other provinces in the field of statistical work and scientific research.

8.To carry out other statistical work assigned by the Provincial Government.
