About GSU

Zhejiang Gongshang University is situated in the central area of Hangzhou, the capital city of Zhejiang Province, PR China. The University acquired present status in 1980, named as Hangzhou University of Commerce. Its history, however, traces back to the year of 1911 when it was founded as Hangzhou Vocational Business School. With the Approval of Ministry of Education, the University was renamed as Zhejiang Gongshang University in May 2004. Zhejiang Gongshang University offers 3 doctoral degree programs: Business Administration, Statistics, Food Science and Technology, 21 postgraduate degree programs and 36 undergraduate degree programs covering the fields of economics, administration, science, engineering, law, literature and arts.

The University has a full-time student population of over 17,000. The size of this University ranks third among the higher educational institutions in the City of Hangzhou. A new campus with an area of 107 hectares is being built (See Blueprint of New Campus). In the next three years, the total enrolment of students will amount to 18,000.

The University has 16 colleges: Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Statistics and Computer, Finance and Accounting, Tourism, Law, Food Science and Biotechnology and Environmental Engineering, Information and Electronic Engineering, Computer and Information Engineering, Human Science and Public Management, Foreign Languages, International Economy and Trade, Arts Design and Mass Mediums, Further Education, Military.

As a fast growing university, Zhejiang Gongshang University attaches great importance to international cooperation in the areas of education and scientific research. It has had academic exchanges and cooperative relation with over 36 universities in the USA, the UK, Australia, Germany, France, Canada and so on. The International Education Center of the University offers Chinese language courses, including Chinese Language and Culture and Business Chinese to international students (Look up www.intechuc.com). The center has enrolled hundreds of students from over 20 countries such as USA, Canada, Australia, UK, France, Germany, Holland, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Czech, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Thailand and so on. The University is sincerely seeking more links with institutions of higher learning overseas in the area of education and scientific research.

In the 21st century, Zhejiang Gongshang University aims to develop into a top higher educational institution with its education and research orientation and to produce graduates who are abreast of latest developments in their chosen profession and who have an ability to challenge the changing world.
